Greetings friends,

This May, as we embrace the season of Easter, we have several opportunities to live as Easter People. Easter People believe in the power of resurrection, the power of God to bring life to something that seems dead, or make possible what seems impossible. On Easter Sunday, we hear how Jesus conquers death, overcomes the grave, and that life has the last word, not death. We know that leads to our salvation, but sometimes the resurrection of Jesus still feels untouchable, distant, and like something that is not possible for us in our own modern lives.

Our series “Resurrection Stories” will inspire us to consider how God is still working in our world, inspiring turnarounds and life-changing healing that make resurrection a reality. We’ll hear scriptures from the Bible – some accounts from after Jesus was raised, but some scriptures from the Old Testament, too. Then we’ll hear modern-day resurrection stories of people who experienced resurrection and transformation in their lives. Jesus tells his followers they have the “keys to the kingdom.” May this series encourage us to discover the keys we need for our own resurrection stories.

On Thursdays in May, we’ll get to interact with retired pastor and professor Jim Aageson (ELCA) as he leads a Lunch & Learn entitled “Christian Extremism: The Heresy and its Consequences.” Christian Nationalism is a term that is growing in usage and justification in our media and dialogue. Jim will help us learn what it is, what is wrong with certain interpretations of it, and why it can be considered heretical to our faith as Easter People. Bring your lunch starting Thursday May 1 at 11:30am. Our neighbors at Our Savior’s Lutheran will also join us.

We’ll also host another Messy Church gathering on Sunday, May 18. We need your help – not only with donations and your presence, but with helping us get the word out! If you have neighbors with young children, please speak to me or Diane Elliot. We can give you invitations or promo information for you to invite others to join Messy Church!

Easter Blessings,

Pastor Jared
