Hello church,
Last Sunday – in the midst of rising strife and conflict in our nation – we reflected on Paul’s words to the church of Corinth. That ancient church was experiencing conflict and challenges, aligning themselves with personalities and leaders rather than Christ Jesus.
The wisdom of the world tells us to win arguments, protect our turf, and prove we’re right. But Paul reminds us that the cross tells a different story—a story of self-giving love, listening before speaking, and bearing one another’s burdens. Jesus speaks up for the oppressed with compassion and boldness. His words do not dehumanize. His actions may look foolish to the world, but his life offers the kind of wisdom and presence that heals those who are vulnerable AND those who misuse power and authority.
We are called to give our lives to others in the same way – to those in the Body of Christ with whom we disagree, and to those beyond the connection of God’s church. May this prayer help you reflect on our path and witness as God’s people.
Prayer:
Crucified Christ, free me from the need to win or dominate.
Teach me the wisdom of love that listens,
the courage that sacrifices comfort in service to others,
and the faith that reaches across deep divides.
Let the power of your cross shape how I speak, act, and love today. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Jared
