Today I am on my way to our Mountain Sky Annual Conference in Highlands Ranch, CO. Lay delegates Luci Yeats and Andy Marvin are joining me this year in person. Luci is representing our church, and Andy is serving as an equalizing lay delegate representing lay people at large in our conference.
This conference is our annual meeting to celebrate our shared mission and ministry across five states and 300+ UMC churches in the mountain west. We worship together, receive reports, and practice ‘holy conferencing’ around legislation and resolutions that help us organize our mission or serve as a witness to our communities.
This year offerings at each Annual Conference worship service will be donated to the East Angola Pastors Support fund and North Littleton Promise. The pastors support funds provides a stable salary of $50/month to over 100 East Angola Pastors so that they can serve their churches and communities. Since 2003, North Littleton Promise has invested in the lives of kids and families in the northeast Littleton immigrant community, building life giving relationships with immigrant kids and families to foster faith, education, and leadership in a Christ-centered community. NLP provides after-school clubs, summer programs, and soccer teams for elementary, middle, and high school students, plus faith, education, and leadership opportunities for the whole family. Annual conference will also vote on four worldwide amendments to our Book of Discipline, include the “regionalization” amendment aimed at enhancing contextual evangelization and strengthening our worldwide connection as the UMC.
