Happy Wednesday!
Last week we highlighted mental health in our Easter worship series “Resurrection Stories.” It’s likely that in the aftermath of Christ’s crucifixion, the grief, fear, and anxiety of the disciples could have constituted post-traumatic stress or trauma. Christ’s 40 days of appearances, teaching, and encouragement helped the disciples heal and prepared them for their ministry as apostles of the Gospel.
20% of adults face some form of mental illness, and 5% face series mental illness in any given year. Mental Health can fluctuate for anyone due to medication changes, hormonal imbalances, anxiety, stress, illness, or changing of the seasons. Paul’s words form Romans remind us that even though we may feel strong when others seem weak, any of us could find ourselves in need of care, so we ought to be humble and caring of one another. Even youth are affected. 1 in 6 youth age 6-17 experience a mental illness in any given year.
That’s why a group of teens in Minnesota felt emboldened to share their stories and empower others on the healing journey. Through theatrical presentations, art, coping seminars, and vulnerability, this group used their hands and voices to inspire and equip other youth and teens of color. Check out how resurrection power worked through these young people to reach others:
