April 22, 2026 Midweek News

Hello church,
Earlier this week I drove to Libby and Troy UMC for a clergy retreat gathering. The traffic on roads in and around our valley seemed absent. I’ve been in a few restaurants over the last week. I’ve witnessed lots of available seating, and the crowds seem to be gone. It must be shoulder season! But as temperatures rise, and spring continues to unfold, we know tourists and visitors will be here soon.
Last Sunday we remembered a beautiful mystery in our faith. As we remembered the ‘Road to Emmaus’ scripture from Luke 24, we read how Jesus was not revealed to the disciples through a perfect lesson or a well-delivered sermon. Instead, he was made known in the fellowship and ministry of sharing his body – the bread. And what was even more amazing is that the disciples only experienced the resurrected Christ when they welcomed a stranger—an outsider they didn’t yet recognize .
In our community, every encounter is a chance to welcome Christ by welcoming our neighbor. This includes “local” neighbors, and neighbors who come from far and wide to experience the beauty of culture and the natural world in Montana.
Reflect on this prayer with me as we week to recognize Christ by welcome others.
“Gracious God,. Give us the courage to invite the stranger into our lives and to seek your face in the ‘neighbor’ and the ‘other’ . As we break bread together—from family gatherings to community meals—open our eyes to the surprise of your resurrection love . Amen.
Easter Blessings,
Pastor Jared
