Last week on Laity Sunday, we celebrated the truth that the church is not a building, a pulpit, or a clergy collar. The church is all the people of God living outwardly and openly as a compassionate presence in the world. We are rooted and grounded in Christ’s love not so we can hide inside sacred walls, but so that every single piece of ground our feet touch becomes holy ground of divine grace.

You are the body of Christ when you step outside the sanctuary doors. You are the church when you are waiting patiently in line at the local post office, sharing a kind word with a neighbor. You are the church when you are tending your autumn garden beds, counting eagles on a wildlife survey, or advocating for the stewardship of our public lands. In every ordinary, frustrating, or beautiful moment, your roots in God’s love allow kindness, humility, and gracious presence to ring out into a noisy world lacking empathy and compassion.

Last Sunday we celebrated two people who embody their faith in the church and community as ‘quiet disciples’ among us. Congratulations again to Robin and Dave Lange!

Blessings,

Pastor Jared
